Transport Solutions

Three State Highways service the current flow of inbound and outbound Tairāwhiti goods. Eastland Port services export logs and small amounts of export produce, including kiwifruit and squash.

Limited transport options represent a risk, as highlighted by regular closures of SH2 to Ōpōtiki, which sometimes necessitate goods being trucked south through Taupō and the Hawke's Bay.

The Trust will continue to support the establishment of a containerised goods service to export ports. Without this option, it will continue to be challenging to attract additional value-added manufacturing of our commodities. Our sector strategies are all seeking to increase processing in the region.

Success looks like
  • A more resilient and cost-effective transport solution is found.
  • A reduction of trucks carrying export goods results in increased environmental and community wellbeing benefits.
